Neil deGrasse Tyson Talks About Intelligent Design And Stuff

Huh... I never thought about it quite like this before...

Neil deGrasse Tyson:

"Even if you are as brilliant as Newton, you reach a point where you start basking in the majesty of God, and then your discovery stops. It just stops. You're kinda no good any more for advancing that frontier, waiting for somebody else to come behind you who does not have God on the brain, and who says, ‘That’s a really cool problem. I want to solve it.’ They come in and solve it.

But look at the time delay. This was a hundred year time delay.

And the math that is in perturbation theory is like crumbs for Newton. He could have come up with that. The guy invented calculus just on a dare practically. When somebody asked him, ‘Ike, how come planets orbit in ellipses and not in some other shape?’ and he couldn’t answer that, he goes home for two months, comes back, out comes integral differential calculus because he needed that to answer that question. So, this is the kind of mind we are dealing with Newton. He could have gone there, but he didn’t.
He didn’t. His religiosity stopped him."
3 parts, so it's a little long, but quite interesting.

New Phone = New Toy / Kids = No Toys

Disclaimer: I love my kids. I wouldn't trade my kids for anything. So don't start with me about making comments about my kids. My kids are better than your kids in every way, just like your kids are better than my kids in every way. K???
K.

One thing people don't realize is that when you have kids, you trade in your toys. People might say they get it. People might actually think they get it. I did too. But nobody really gets it until they have a kid. The kid gets all the toys. And the toys you had? Might as well take them to Goodwill because you won't get to play with them anymore.

Now, that's not entirely true if you only have one kid. Of course, if you only have one kid, you're not really a parent either. You need two kids for that. Sorry one-kid-having people. Not a parent. Need two. Kids. There's probably a loophole for single parents, but that's for somebody else to figure out. Need two kids, and if you need a deeper explanation, rent "Bill Cosby- Himself".

My kids are 2 and 4, so I'm pretty well resigned to living without playing with toys. Our house is littered with toys. There are toys everywhere. None of them are mine, but that's okay. I traded mine in for the kids. I'm also in my 40's. What would I do with toys? What kind of toys would a guy such as myself find amusement in anyway?

Guns? Well, okay. I'll give y'all that one. Lately I've been buying a gun a year. But really, how much can I play with a gun? Not often, and then I have to trigger lock it, case it up, lock up the case, hide it, etc... cuz I've got kids. Again, that's cool. The gubmint will eventually take my guns [/sarcasm] so it's not that big of a deal.

Guitars? Yes, I've got some guitars. Good thing I bought them before I had (yeah... you got it) kids. Now, the guitars I get to play with a lot more than the guns. But again. I can't get into the first chorus of a song before I've got two kids showing me where I'm doing it all wrong and how far off I am with the volume, reverb, etc. So sure. I got the guns and the guitars that I can, on occasion, play with.

That brings me to this. It's been a long time since I got a toy. A real toy that I can play with and not share or hide in the closet. My wife and I are expecting child #3 in October. That means less chance of me getting any more toys. It could be argued (and I'd concede) that I must be getting some sort of fun if the wife is pregnant. That's true. But I didn't say I never had any fun. I'm always having fun. The point is I don't get to play with toys. Until now. The phone. The phone is the best toy I've gotten in years. It's barely a phone. It's all toy. And I plan to have my phone in the delivery room watching animal attacks on YouTube while muttering, "push... push," and waiting to cut the cord so I can show the new mini-human my toy and announce, "MINE!!!"
